Texas – In Demand

The song, “In Demand”, is a swipe by its protagonist (represented in the first person) at a former lover who once dated and then dumped her, but has made a concerted effort to win her back after she has found both fame and the love of another – now that she is “in demand.” The singer makes it clear that she does not trust the ex’s motives, thinking that he only wants her back because he is jealous now that she is not his. The single was accompanied by a music video which starred Alan Rickman alongside Spiteri.

Boy Meets Girl – Waiting for a Star to Fall

Waiting For a Star to Fall is a song released by the pop duo Boy Meets Girl in 1988. It was a worldwide hit, and became the duo’s signature song. The song was inspired by an actual falling star that Shannon Rubicam had seen at one of Whitney Houston’s concerts at the Greek Theatre. Initially the duo did not consider to record it, and instead submitted the song to Clive Davis for consideration on Houston’s next album, but he rejected it, alleging that it didn’t suit her. The song was then offered and recorded by Belinda Carlisle for her 1987 release Heaven On Earth at the insistence of her label. But Carlisle disliked the song, and she ultimately refused to include it on the album, though it has circulated in her trading circles for years on a disc of that album’s outtakes.

Adele – Someone Like You

“Someone Like You” is a song by English singer-songwriter Adele written by Adele and Dan Wilson for her second studio album 21. The pop ballad was inspired by a broken relationship, and lyrically it speaks of Adele coming to terms with it. XL Recordings released the song as the second single from the album on 24 January 2011 in the United Kingdom and on 9 August 2011 in the United States. Accompanied only by a piano in the song (played by co-writer Wilson), Adele sings about the end of the relationship with her ex-boyfriend. The song received positive reviews from music critics who chose the song as a highlight of the album and praised the lyrics, its simple sound and Adele’s vocal performance.
