The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army

“Seven Nation Army” is the first track on the album Elephant by American alternative rock band The White Stripes. It was released as a single in 2003 and is arguably the band’s best-known song. “Seven Nation Army” reached #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks for three weeks and won 2004’s Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. It also became 3rd best performing alternative song of the decade on the same chart. The song is known for its underlying riff, which plays throughout most of the song. Although it sounds like a bass guitar (an instrument the group had never previously used), the sound is actually created by running Jack White’s semi-acoustic guitar (a 1950s style Kay Hollowbody) through a DigiTech Whammy pedal set down an octave.

David Guetta – Titanium

“Titanium” is a song by French DJ and music producer David Guetta, featuring vocals by Australian recording artist Sia. Taken from the former’s fifth studio album, Nothing but the Beat, the song was written by Sia Furler, Guetta, Giorgio Tuinfort and Afrojack. Production was also handled by Guetta, Tuinfort and Afrojack. “Titanium” was initially released for digital download on August 8, 2011, as the first of four promotional singles from the album. It was later released as the album’s fourth single in December 2011. The song originally featured the vocals of American recording artist Mary J. Blige, whose version of the song leaked online in July 2011.

Rick Astley – Together Forever

“Together Forever” is a song recorded by Rick Astley, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on 18 June 1988. It was Astley’s second and final U.S. chart-topper. It reached number 2 in Britain, being denied the top spot by Neighbours star Kylie Minogue with her debut single “I Should Be So Lucky”. It uses a similar chord structure and melody to “Never Gonna Give You Up” (as with most songs produced by Stock Aitken Waterman at the time).

Bryan Adams – Here I Am

“Here I Am” is the title of a song co-written and recorded by Canadian artist Bryan Adams. The song was written and recorded in 2002 for the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and was both released on the official soundtrack and as a single. The single reached number-one in Taiwan, Azerbaijan, Portugal and hit number 5 in both Canada and the U.K. The song won an ASCAP Award and was nominated for Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

Lorde – Royals

“Royals” is a song recorded by New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde from her debut extended play The Love Club EP (2012) and her debut studio album Pure Heroine (2013). The song was released for sale on March 8, 2013 as the lead single from the extended play and the album. The song was co-written in half an hour by Lorde, with the help from the songs producer Joel Little. “Royals” is an art pop and minimal song that, according to the pair, is a “response to everything that’s on pop radio”, with lyrics that revolve around “aspirationalism” and the luxury and lifestyle of pop artists.
