Simple Minds – Alive And Kicking

“Alive and Kicking” is a song by the Scottish rock band Simple Minds, released in 1985, which reached the Top three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and served as first single from the band’s most successful album, Once Upon a Time.

Following on from the success of previous non-album single, “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”, “Alive and Kicking” was released as a single, reaching number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the U.S. Mainstream rock tracks chart. (Four weeks at Top Five Billboard) and number 7 on the UK Singles Chart.

The Lumineers – Ho Hey

“Ho Hey” is a song by American folk rock band The Lumineers. It was released on June 4, 2012 as the lead single from their debut self-titled studio album. The music video was also released on March 11, 2012. “Ho Hey” reached No. 1 for 18 non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard rock songs chart, as well as two weeks in the top spot on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and eight weeks in the top spot on the Adult Pop Songs chart, and reached number No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming their first single to do so, as well as their first Top 5 single. It is also their first single to reach Platinum status in the US.

Echosmith – Cool Kids

“Cool Kids” is a song by American indie pop and rock band Echosmith from their 2013 debut studio album, Talking Dreams. The song was written by Echosmith, Jeffery David, and Jesiah Dzwonek. It was produced by Mike Elizondo, with additional production on the radio edit by Rob Cavallo. “Cool Kids” was originally released on May 31, 2013 as the iTunes Store Single of the Week and officially impacted United States radio the following year. The song has become a sleeper hit, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving airplay on US modern rock, hot adult contemporary, and contemporary hit radio stations. “Cool Kids” has also done well internationally, breaking into the top 10 of the Australian music charts and peaking at number six.

Bon Jovi – It’s My Life

“It’s My Life” is Bon Jovi’s first single from the album Crush. It was released on May 23, 2000. It was written by Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, and Max Martin.

The song charted in the top 10 across several countries (although it only reached number 33 in the US). However, it has the distinction of making Bon Jovi the only band once classified as 1980s hair metal to reach the top 40 in the 2000s, a testament to how the song managed to introduce the band to a new, younger fanbase. The song is arguably their most well known post-1980s hit single and it has been performed live at almost all shows since its release.

John Mellencamp – Jack & Diane

“Jack & Diane” is a 1982 hit rock song written and performed by American singer-songwriter, John Mellencamp, then performing as “John Cougar.” It appears on Mellencamp’s album American Fool. It was chosen by RIAA as one of the Songs of the Century. The single spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982, and, to date, is Mellencamp’s most successful hit single.
