Bush – The Chemicals Between Us (live)

“The Chemicals Between Us” is a song by alternative band Bush from their third album The Science of Things. It spent five non-consecutive weeks at number one on the U.S. Alternative Songs chart and peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 67 on 4 December 1999. The song closed out the entire alternative rock panel in one week, an unprecedented feat. Many saw this as proof of Bush’s importance to the alternative radio format. It would eventually become Bush’s last major worldwide hit before their 2002 breakup. Songs like “Warm Machine,” “Letting the Cables Sleep,” “The People That We Love” and “Inflatable” would become minor hits, but after “The Chemicals Between Us,” Bush would not score another number one hit until 12 years later with “The Sound of Winter” (2011).

U2 – Walk On

“Walk On” is a song by Irish rock band U2. It is the fourth track on their 2000 album, All That You Can’t Leave Behind, and was released as a single in February 2001, the record’s second in Canada and the fourth in the rest of the world. The song was written about Aung San Suu Kyi, a Burmese academic who was chairperson of the National League for Democracy and was placed under house arrest from 1989 until 2010 for her pro-democracy activities. The song won the “Grammy Award for Record of the Year” in 2002, marking the first time an artist had won the award for songs from the same album in consecutive years.

Juice Newton – Angel Of The Morning

“Angel of the Morning” is a popular song written by Chip Taylor that has been recorded numerous times and has been a hit single for various artists including Merrilee Rush, Juice Newton, Nina Simone, P.P. Arnold, Olivia Newton-John, The Pretenders/Chrissie Hynde, Dusty Springfield, Mary Mason, Melba Montgomery, and Billie Davis.

Written and composed by New York-born songwriter Chip Taylor, “Angel of the Morning” was originally offered to Connie Francis to sing, but she turned it down because she thought that it was too risqué for her career. The song’s narrator describes the breakup of a presumably illicit love affair: “If morning’s echo says we’ve sinned, well, it was what I wanted now.”
