Gwen Stefani & Akon – The Sweet Escape

“The Sweet Escape” is a song by American recording artist Gwen Stefani from her second solo album, The Sweet Escape (2006). It was written by Stefani, Akon, and Giorgio Tuinfort. Akon, who is also a featured artist, developed the song’s beat before collaborating with Stefani. He designed it based on her previous work with No Doubt, and Stefani later commented that it put her “on the yellow brick road to the No Doubt record I might do”. “The Sweet Escape” is an apology for a fight between two lovers and describes a dream of a pleasant life for them. As the album’s title track, its title was chosen to help market Stefani’s music and fashion lines.

Natasha Bedingfield – Unwritten

“Unwritten” is a song by English singer Natasha Bedingfield. Bedingfield, Danielle Brisebois, and Wayne Rodriguez wrote it for her debut album, Unwritten, and later served as the opening theme for the MTV reality series The Hills. The single was released as the album’s third UK single (November 2004) and second US single (September 2005). It reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first top-ten hit in the United States.

“When You Were Young” is a song written and performed by The Killers, and is the third track on their second album Sam’s Town, released in October 2006. The song was released as the lead single from that album in September 2006. It has proven to be one of their most successful singles, peaking at #14 on the U.S. Hot 100, as well as their only number 1 to date on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks. It is also their highest charting single to date in the United Kingdom and Australia, peaking at numbers 2 and 10 respectively.

Dropkick Murphys – I’m Shipping Up To Boston

“I’m Shipping Up to Boston” is a song with lyrics written by the folk singer Woody Guthrie and music written and performed by the Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys. It appeared on their 2005 album, The Warrior’s Code. An earlier recording of it can be found on the Hellcat Records compilation Give ‘Em the Boot: Vol. 4. The song’s simple lyrics describe a sailor who had lost a leg climbing the topsail, and is shipping up to Boston to “find my wooden leg.” The song has so far sold 1,044,000 digital copies without ever charting on the Hot 100. The video features the Dropkick Murphys performing the song on the waterfront in East Boston. The band is also seen “hanging out” with hooligans while being chased by Boston police officers.

Zucchero – Baila (Sexy Thing)

“Baila morena” is a song recorded in 2001 by the Italian singer Zucchero. The song was released as a single twice : first in 2001 (under the title “Baila (Sexy Thing)”), reaching #1 in Italy, but achieving a moderate success in the other countries, then in 2006 as a duet with the band Maná, as the soundtrack of the film Les Bronzés 3 : Amis pour la vie (English : French Fried Vacation 3 – Friends Forever), becoming this time a huge hit in France and Belgium. In 2007, the song was covered by Patrick Fiori and Hélène Ségara and included in a medley available on Les Enfoirés’ album La Caravane des Enfoirés.
