“I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” is the first single from Whitney Houston’s second studio album Whitney. It was produced by Narada Michael Walden, and written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam of the band Boy Meets Girl, who had previously written the number-one Whitney Houston hit “How Will I Know”. The original arrangement was more of a country tune, but was transformed by Walden to make it a dance song.

The Police – Every Breath You Take

“Every Breath You Take” is a song by The Police on the band’s 1983 album Synchronicity, written by Sting and Andy Summers (but officially credited to Sting only). The single was one of the biggest hits of 1983, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight weeks and the UK Singles Chart for four weeks. It also topped the Billboard Top Tracks chart for nine weeks.

Kim Carnes – Bette Davis Eyes

“Bette Davis Eyes” is a classic hit song written by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon, and made popular by American singer-songwriter Kim Carnes. It spent nine weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was Billboard’s biggest hit of the entire year for 1981. The recording won the 1982 Grammy Awards for both Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.

“Self Control” is the name of an international hit song recorded in 1984 by Laura Branigan, as well as the album on which it appears. The song was recorded that same year with the same English lyrics by Italian singer Raf, who co-wrote the song with Giancarlo Bigazzi and Steve Piccolo. The song has become one of the defining pop songs of the 1980s, with a number of remakes recorded each year.
