Bee Gees – You Win Again

“You Win Again” is a 1987 song written by Barry, Robin & Maurice Gibb and performed by the Bee Gees. Released as a single in late 1987, it marked the start of the group’s comeback, becoming a number one hit in many European countries, including the UK – their first to do so in over eight years, and made them the first group to score a UK number-one hit in each of three decades: the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. As songwriters, the Gibb brothers received the 1987 British Academy’s Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In a UK television special on ITV in December 2011, it was voted second (behind “How Deep Is Your Love”) in “The Nation’s Favourite Bee Gees Song”.

“Rock ‘N’ Roll Children” is the sixth single released by heavy metal band Dio, appearing on their 1985 LP, Sacred Heart. It reached number 26 on the Billboard Top Album Tracks chart.

Rock ‘N’ Roll Children is a song exemplary for Dio’s style of blending the theme of rock ‘n’ roll with fantasy elements. It is about boy and a girl, meant for each other and at the same time hostile opposites, ending up alone in the dark. The song seems to be closely connected to the song Sacred Heart of the same album, which is about a quest imposed by a wizard to find the sacred heart bleeding in the night; in Rock ‘N’ Roll Children the fall in the darkness of the couple is expressed as the breaking of a heart.

John Mellencamp – Jack & Diane

“Jack & Diane” is a 1982 hit rock song written and performed by American singer-songwriter, John Mellencamp, then performing as “John Cougar.” It appears on Mellencamp’s album American Fool. It was chosen by RIAA as one of the Songs of the Century. The single spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982, and, to date, is Mellencamp’s most successful hit single.
